Truck Transportation Tips

Scheduling: What to expect

Shipping a truck such as the Ford F-150 or the Toyota Tacoma is not like ordering a pizza or shipping a letter. Pickup and delivery dates and times are estimates only. Drivers travel hundreds of miles a day and they can get delayed by weather, construction, and other customers. Same-day or next-day pickup from the time that you book is possible, but you should be prepared to wait on average 5 days. To minimize this waiting-time, expedited service is possible. Additionally, all pickup and delivery estimates are plus/minus 2 days. When a driver tells you he will be there at a certain time, this is his best guess. Many things could happen which are outside of his control.

Door-to-Door Truck Shipping

Carnections offers door-to-door truck shipping. This means we pickup your truck at "your door" and deliver to "your door". Often this means we can pickup and deliver to the exact addresses you give us. However, sometimes we can't deliver to the exact address given, but we can get within a few miles. The auto transport trailer that ships your truck is likely to be too big to fit into certain areas like residential zones. In cases like these, the driver will arrange with you a convenient nearby location that is big enough to fit the truck like a shopping mall's parking lot.

Open or Enclosed Truck Transport?

Open trailers are by far the most commom method to ship trucks. Open trailer means your truck is partially or fully exposed to the elements. Open trailers vary in sizes, from small 3-vehicle capacity to large 10-vehicle capacity. These trailers are perfectly safe and your truck is unlikely to get damaged. It may get dirty, but it is usually nothing a car wash can't clean. For added protection, CarNections also offers truck transport by enclosed trailer. These type of trailers fully cover your truck from the elements. Enclosed trailers have capcities of 1-vehicle to 3-vehicles. Very few enclosed trailers can handle more than 3 vehicles. Also, many enclosed trailers are not capable of hauling large trucks. Most of them can handle cars, and small to medium-sized trucks, vans and trucks.

Payment: Deposit & payment on delivery

To schedule an truck transport, we require a deposit of $100 - $200.00. For most transports, the deposit is $150.00. The deposit is required because it lets us know that you are serious about using us to transport your vehicle. With a deposit we schedule your truck shipment with a licensed, bonded, and insured car carrier. The remaining balance must be paid on delivery in cash or a cashier's check. Sometimes a personal check or credit card is acceptable, but only if paid at pickup. Essentially, the driver needs to know that he has his money before he will deliver your truck.

Insurance & licencing

Make sure the transport company that you hire to move your truck is licensed and insured. We only network with licensed and insured motor carriers. In order to legally transport vehicles, carriers must be licensed by the U.S. Department of Transportation. To be licensed, carriers must have insurance. Most carriers have $1,000,000.00 in cargo insurance. Cargo insurance covers the trucks and other vehicles that the carrier is hauling. If the carrier that you choose does not carry insurance and your truck is damaged enroute, you may out of luck. Remember, Carnections only works with licensed and insured motor carriers.
