About Toyota

Toyota Motor Corporation is a Japanese automobile manufacturer. It was started by Kiichiro Toyoda in 1937 as an offshoot of his father’s company, “Toyota Industries,” and it was founded specifically to create automobiles. In 1934, before its official start, it created the Type A engine and two years later the Toyota AA, a passenger vehicle. Toyota Motor Corporation includes Hino Motors, Lexus, Daihatsu, Scion, and, of course, Toyota. In 2011 it was the third-largest automobile manufacturer in the world and produced its 200,000,000th vehicle in 2012. Its North American headquarters is in Torrance, California while the Toyota vehicles sold in America are made in Erlanger, Kentucky and in many other states. Toyota Corolla is a model of compact and subcompact vehicles and is one of the best-selling cars of all time. Year-to-year the Corolla has been the best selling or one of the best selling cars since 1974. By 1997 the Corolla surpassed the Volkswagen Beetle as the bestselling vehicle of all time. In 2013 Toyota reported its 40 millionth Corolla sale. Throughout the years of its success its chief competitors have been the Nissan Sunny, which was introduced in 1966, the same year the Corolla was first introduced, and then the Honda Civic. The Toyota Camry is a mid-sized sedan, slightly larger than the Corolla. It was first placed on the market in 1980 where it was originally a compact car. Later in 1991 and beyond, Toyota Camrys became mid-size sedans. The Camry became the best-selling passenger car in North American by 2012. The Toyota Avalon is a line of full-sized, four-door cars, bigger than the Corolla and the Camry. It was first model year was 1995. It featured front-wheel drive and a powerful V-6 engine. It doesn’t sell as well as the Corolla or Camry, but it has its place in Toyota’s line-up as its full-sized car for those who want extra room, but don’t want a mini-van or SUV. The Toyota Prius is a hatchback, gasoline-electric hybrid. It was first introduced in Japan in 1997 as a compact sedan and later sold worldwide as a hatchback in 2000. The EPA rates the Prius as one of the cleanest cars sold in the U.S. In 2011 Toyota launched several types of Prii (the official plural form of Prius as voted by the public) including the Prius Liftback, V, C, and Plug-In Hybrid. The various Prii are among the most fuel efficient cars sold in the U.S. with the 2012 Prius C getting 53 MPG. Previa & Sienna

The Previa is one of Toyota’s largest minivans. It goes by different names in different markets around the world. It’s the Canarado in most of Asia, the Estima in Japan, and the Tarago in Australia. It was introduced by Toyota in 1990 and is still in production today. Back in 1990 it was unveiled as a preview to the technologies that would be used in Toyota’s future minivans.

The Sienna is Toyota’s other large minivan. It is a newer model, first introduced in 1997. It was made to be produced along side the Camry, as they share an automobile platform. With a common base in place, manufacturers can then make several unique models with minimal work. Before 2004 both the Sienna and Previa were physically smaller than their competitors but in this year they were made bigger.

Land Cruiser, 4Runner, and FJ Cruiser

The Toyota Land Cruiser is an off-road Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV). It is very tough, reliable, and it can run for years under harsh conditions. To make sure each year’s Land Cruiser is at par with the previous ones, they are tested in the Australian Outback, which has extreme terrain and temperature. Because of its durability it is the most popular 4-wheel drive vehicle in South Sudan and Australia. It was first made in 1951 and is still popular today, making it Toyota’s longest running vehicle model.

The Toyota FJ Cruiser first model year was 2007. It is Toyota’s newest SUV. It uses the same automobile platform as the Land Cruiser Prado. It is a compact SUV with 2 full doors and 2 half doors. It comes in rear-wheel, front-wheel, and four-wheel drive.

Toyota’s Trucks: Tacoma and Tundra

The Toyota Tacoma, like all of Toyota’s other models is a well-made, reliable vehicle. When it was first put into production in 1995 it was a compact pickup truck and in 2004 to the present it has been made slightly bigger and considered a mid-size pickup. There are 2 door and 4 door versions with your choice of a regular, extended, or crew cab. In 2005 Motor Trend Magazine awarded the Tacoma as its “Truck of the Year.”

The Toyota Tundra. Four years after Toyota debut the Tacoma it released the Tundra, its full-size pickup truck. In its first few years it featured a V6 engine like the Tacoma, but was later upgraded to us a V8, greatly increasing its towing capacity. It received Motor Trend Magazine’s “Truck of the Year” award not once, but twice! first in 2000 and then in 2008. Like the Tacoma, it comes in both 2-door and 4-door versions.
